True Canadian Elevator offers supply and installation of global or component elevator machine room guarding. Only authorized personnel are permitted in elevator machine rooms. Any personnel unlicensed who needs to access elevator machine rooms must be under the supervision of a trained elevator mechanic where guarding does not exist.
The requirements for elevator machine room guarding fall under Ontario Regulation 851 (O. Reg. 851) sections 24, 25, 75 and 76 made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and enforced by the Ministry of Labour, which states “Where a machine or prime mover or transmission equipment has an exposed moving part that may endanger the safety of any worker, the machine or prime mover or transmission equipment shall be equipped with and guarded by a guard or other device that prevents access to the moving part. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851, s. 24.”
